When we skip stretching or mobility work, our muscles start to stiffen, range of motion decreases, and our risk of injury goes up. Not fun.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">The good news? You don\u2019t need to be super bendy or spend hours stretching to feel better. Just a few gentle moves a few times a week can seriously improve how you feel in your body especially if you\u2019re consistent.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">Here\u2019s why flexibility matters and a few easy stretches you can do to help keep your body moving the way it\u2019s meant to.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Why Flexibility is So Important<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">When your muscles are flexible, you move more freely and with better form, whether you\u2019re working out, doing chores, or chasing after your kids. Flexibility also helps:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li class=\"\"><strong>Reduce muscle stiffness and soreness<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"\"><strong>Improve posture and alignment<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"\"><strong>Prevent injuries and strains<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"\"><strong>Boost circulation and recovery<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"\"><strong>Release built-up tension and stress<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">Think of it as maintenance for your body. Just like brushing your teeth prevents cavities, stretching helps keep your muscles healthy and functional long-term.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Easy Stretches to Improve Flexibility<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">These are a few of my go-to stretches for clients (and for myself). They\u2019re gentle enough to do seated or lying down and perfect for all fitness levels. Don\u2019t rush, ease into each one and breathe deeply.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">1\ufe0f\u20e3 Seated Forward Bend<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">Sit tall on a chair, legs extended in front of you. Slowly reach toward your toes. You\u2019ll feel this in your hamstrings and lower back. Hold for 20\u201330 seconds. This helps improve flexibility in the back of your legs and spine.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">2\ufe0f\u20e3 Shoulder Rolls<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">Great for anyone who sits a lot or carries tension in their upper body. Roll your shoulders back in a slow circular motion, 10 times, then forward 10 times. Loosens up your traps and upper back.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">3\ufe0f\u20e3 Neck Stretch<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">Tilt your head to the right so your ear moves toward your shoulder (without lifting the shoulder). Hold for 15\u201320 seconds and switch sides. This targets the side of your neck and helps with daily stiffness from tech neck or stress.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">4\ufe0f\u20e3 Seated Spinal Twist<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">Sit upright with both feet flat. Gently twist your upper body to the right, using your left hand on your right knee for support. Hold 20\u201330 seconds, then switch. Helps keep your spine mobile and reduces tightness through your back and core.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">5\ufe0f\u20e3 Figure Four Stretch<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">Lie on your back, bend both knees, and cross your right ankle over your left thigh. Gently pull your left leg toward your chest. This is one of the best hip and glute openers out there. Hold 20\u201330 seconds per side.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">6\ufe0f\u20e3 Seated Side Stretch<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">Raise your left arm up and gently lean to the right, feeling the stretch through your side body. Hold for 15\u201320 seconds, then switch. Opens up the rib cage and improves side-to-side mobility.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">A Few Pro Tips<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li class=\"\"><strong>Stretch consistently<\/strong>\u2014a few minutes a day is more effective than a long session once a week.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"\"><strong>Breathe deeply<\/strong>\u2014inhale through your nose, exhale through your mouth.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"\"><strong>Don\u2019t bounce or force<\/strong>\u2014stretching should feel good, not painful.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"\"><strong>Pair stretching with movement<\/strong>\u2014walking, strength training, or foam rolling all work well together.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">Flexibility isn\u2019t just for dancers or professional athletes.
